It’s sort of like karma. you do good and good comes back to you!As a customer, here’s how it works: you call up the company and one of the five drivers comes to pick you up. The taxi has a meter, and it is turned on, as is the law. But at your destination you are not expected to pay the full fare on the meter, only whatever tip you choose.The company started in October 2007 with just one taxi, and business has grown so much in a short time that four more cars have been added totaling 5, and plans to add more as the busy summer approaches. The service area includes Ocean City, Ocean Pines, West Ocean City and Fenwick Island. This can’t be legal, can it?It can, and it is.The company has all the proper licenses and all the vehicles have been inspected by the police department and a MD inspection station like every other taxi in town.By law, every taxi must have a meter set by the police department, and it must be running during every ride. Drivers cannot charge a penny more than what the meter says, but they are free to charge less if they want.“So how does Free Taxi stay in business, if customers do not have to pay?
